So there is a new restaurant in Fernandina Beach that goes by the name, Pogo' Kitchen. It's a beautiful restaurant with a menu filled with southern influence. They were kindly enough to invite me out to their soft opening, and I was so glad I took their invitation. The food and service were really good. With most soft openings, you try and work out the kinks, get all the employees used to the menu. But I must say for day 2 of soft opening, everything ran pretty smooth.
We got to try two dishes. One of the dishes I tried was the Blackened Catfish, which was served with a cornmeal waffle, sorghum butter, & pepper rouille. The other was the Smoked Short Rib of beef. That was served with Cheddar Grits, roasted broccoli & cripsy onion. Both dishes were beautifully plated, seasoned well and tasty. The menu is full of many good items. Whether you're a meat eater, fish eater or a vegetarian. The menu is good for everyone.
Along with good food came good cocktails. I got to try the Walt's Manhattan and the In Fashion. Out of the two, the Manhattan was my favorite. They also have a very delicious Margarita.
I briefly chatted with with Executive Chef Alan Heckman and Sous Chef Anthony D'Emidio. I gave them my praise for such a delicious dinner. They definitely seem like the team to make Pogo's a hit. Whether you live in the neighborhood or have to take a drive to enjoy this lovely restaurant, it's worth it. Pogo's opens May 15th, so don't waste any time in dining at the new jewel of Fernandina Beach.
