So I drove the family to St Simons Island this past weekend to try out Southern Soul BBQ. I've been wanting to try them out for awhile now. It was definitely worth the hour drive north. I got there 20 minutes before they opened and took a couple exterior pictures of the restaurant & some of the meaty goodness they were smoking. Just smelling all the food just made me even more hungry.
We tried a little of everything. I order the "three meat sampler". I picked, ribs (St. Louis style), Brisket & Burnt Ends. When I looked at the burnt ends in the smoker, I was just amazed at how good and juicy they looked. They were so damn good. The meat on the ribs fell right off the bone and the brisket had so much damn flavor. I was really happy I drove up to Southern Soul BBQ, it was definitely worth it. The staff was really nice and helpful on our first visit. There is seating inside and out. For me I loved that the smokers were outside so you can get to see some of the cooking action. Plus the smell of BBQ smoke in the air is amazing.
I will definitely be back. It's worth the trip. If you are a foodie or just want to get away from the area for a day or two. St Simons is the place. Great views of the ocean and some good local food like Southern Soul BBQ and others.
